Rock music is a form of popular melodies

Rock, as a separate musical direction, began to form in the 60s of the last century. The popularity of various blues motifs provoked the emergence of new trends in music. Today’s manifestation of this direction is a reflection of rock and roll and rockabilly of the 60s and 70s.

The direction of art rock appeared a little later, characterized by a combination of jazz overflows, classical music, rhythmic elements and national motifs. After the 70s, the mass formation of various genres of rock music began, from formidable hardcore to garage punk and brutal death metal.

All rock music, despite its diversity, has a common distinctive feature – a clear rhythm set with the help of a drum set, additional instrumental overflows, rigor of rhythm, beauty of sound.

Rock style and culture

Rock, as a cultural phenomenon, gave rise to the so-called “rock and roll lifestyle”, a certain style of behavior and a system of life values.

Rock music has a relatively large exciting energy (drive). It can also give the individual freedom from established social principles and stereotypes, from the surrounding reality.

The rock image implies first of all brutality and masculinity. Under this style, there was a fashion for all black clothes with an abundance of leather and metal. Many rockers often wear various metal fittings. For example, chains, crosses, skulls, spikes, rivets and so on.

It also has its own hairstyles. For metalheads, as a rule, it is long flowing hair. And Iroquois is popular with punks. They also use short haircuts with a special chaotic hair styling. However, it would be wrong to single out one clear rock style for absolutely everyone. After all, music itself has many forms. Therefore, for each genre there is some kind of zest.

For example, punk rockers cause a certain epotage. Provocative and bright colors of clothing can be used. For hard rock, darker shades with metal fittings are used here. In rock culture, there is often a rejection of everything traditional.

This is a kind of protest against traditional values, moral and aesthetic attitudes. It is also often used against some political situations in the country. Also, such a culture implies self-expression and the imposition of one’s views on life. As a rule, such a struggle is manifested due to the lyrics and the manner of performing musical compositions.

Metal as a subgenre of rock

Rooted in blues and psychedelic rock are the bands who created heavy metal and developed a heavy drum and guitar centered sound characterized by amplified distortion and fast guitar solos. Among the myriad forms of rock, heavy metal is the most extreme in terms of volume, masculinity and theatrics.

Heavy metal has a number of fans around the world known as “metalheads” or “headbangers”. The early heavy metal bands Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath and Deep Purple attracted large audiences, although they were often criticized throughout the history of the genre. In the mid-70s, Judas Priest was the impetus for the evolution of the genre. The new wave of British heavy metal with punk rock is increasingly focused on the speed of performance.

One of the main differences between rock and metal is the solo performance. In the latter genre, vocalists range from clean vocals or voices to guttural, depending on the gravity of the metal. For this reason, metal is considered harder plus volume than rock concerts.

Two genres in one element

Rock music was created mainly under the influence of blues, country, folk. Rock as a genre will be revised from the end of the 40s and 50s. It’s not a heavy genre. If it wasn’t for a bit of negative vibes during the 80s and 90s (punk influence), these are really happy tunes about hope, love, rainbows and sunshine.

Metal is darker, more complex and unpredictable. Although psychedelic rock and blues are not seen as the “parents” of the metal genres, classical music has its influence, Beethoven – “metalhead”, was born before metal. Listen to the fifth symphony again, if you do not agree with this opinion, in accordance with the emotions, it sounds quite negative and loud.

Heavy rock bands improvise more on blues and bass lines, sometimes carrying a rhythm pattern. The music is freer and more upbeat, with the singer singing in a high note.
