"Highlord is one of the most representative power metal bands from Italy! 8 albums released till now worldwide and tons of catchy tunes!!! Hic Sunt Leones, the new chapter released by Massacre Records in June 2016. Highlord toured the UK in May 2017."
Have you ever wondered what Manowar, Iron Maiden, and Dio would sound like together with some Death Metal elements added in? Well, Highlord gives a pretty savage representation of what that would sound like. Their music has a very strong cinematic element with high energy. While you listen to the music you can picture battles, epic duels, and it transports you into that world with them. It is as if you are becoming a warrior with each song and they are the leaders of the Metal Army. It is a classic Metal sound which can be appreciated by all metalheads but brings in newer elements which appeals to the younger metalheads. Which explains their staying power within such a fickle industry.
Their artistic caliber is displayed perfectly in One World At A Time. The commanding vocals of Andrea Marchisio where he encompasses operatic styling in his powerful vocal range, which is complimented perfectly with the edgy angelic vocal style of Linnea Vikström. But they don't stop there, they bring in the death metal growl that I crave with Luca Pellegrino. Add on the epic guitar solo of Marco Malacarne, and you have music euphoria. Of course, each member of the band adds its own magic to this musical kingdom, Massimiliano Flak keeps the intensity with the cadence of the bass and Davide Cristofoli finishes the music just perfectly with keyboards. This is something I respect a great deal about Highlord, they do not lean on any one member nor style. They come together with such a fluid style, you can't help but put the ear buds in and just go out to conquer the world. Their music actually creates energy, which is a talent not many bands possess.
As I listen to their music throughout the years, you can tell they are masters of their craft. Even with the inevitable band member changes, they somehow manage to keep that passion and charisma in their music. They don't miss a beat and only get stronger, and dare I say, better, with time. And their artistry is something I can hear becoming timeless, with their lyrics and themes, it is something that appeals to all generations, and the rhythm is something that every soul can move to. If you are a die hard metalhead or a eternal rocker, they certainly have earned my respect. Below you can listen to the entire Hic Sunt Leones album which was released in June 2016, my personal favorite off the album is Wrong Side of Sanity. It has the perfect energy, the guitar riffs and drum fills are executed flawlessly, while still enchanting with the vocals. But it is really hard to lock in on one particular song that stands out above the others, because it really depends on your mood, which song will impact you the most. That is the beauty of music after all, each time you hear it, it is a new experience. They really show they understand what true artistry is all about, and how to speak to each person's heart. It's not just all intensity, they have a tender side, which speaks to a hopeless romantics heart with Feathers To A Bird, which in a way is a wink and a nod to Nightwish and Scorpions, but certainly done in Highlord style. I hope they continue to make music, because I am certainly enamored by their musical story.
